Returns are point-to-point price changes for the indicated periods and may differ from total returns. Rankings are a market snapshot and can change rapidly. Ticker mappings, corporate actions, relistings and security classifications should be verified before use.
Five-day outliers: immediate catalysts dominate
Vicor, Rambus and Moderna lead the five-day winners. These moves span two different themes. Vicor and Rambus are exposed to the infrastructure required to power and connect increasingly demanding AI systems, while Moderna remains highly sensitive to regulatory, clinical and pipeline developments.
Rambus entered the period with strong fundamental momentum. Its second-quarter revenue reached a company record, product revenue grew more than 20% from the prior year and management linked demand to data-center and AI infrastructure. The company also initiated an accelerated share-repurchase program. That combination can amplify positive reactions when semiconductor sentiment strengthens.
Moderna’s short-term strength is more event-driven. The company reiterated an expectation for revenue growth in 2026, reduced its operating-expense outlook and approached additional regulatory milestones. However, its quarterly revenue remained modest relative to its cost base, and the norovirus program failed to meet the statistical criteria for early success at its interim analysis. The stock therefore remains unusually sensitive to individual clinical and regulatory announcements.
On the downside, Novo Nordisk’s five-day decline reflects continuing concern about competitive pressure, lower obesity-drug pricing and the durability of growth beyond semaglutide. New York Times and Airbnb are more exposed to expectations surrounding advertising, consumer demand, travel spending and valuation. Short-period moves in those names should not automatically be interpreted as changes in their long-term economics.
Three-month leaders: recovery from compressed expectations
Moderna, Atlassian and 10x Genomics dominate the three-month ranking. Their gains are important, but the starting point matters. Each entered its recovery with substantial investor skepticism, allowing even moderate improvements in guidance or execution to produce a disproportionately large share-price response.
Atlassian’s recovery reflects a reversal of the earlier “AI disruption” narrative. Accelerating cloud revenue, improving profitability and adoption of its AI-enabled Rovo products encouraged investors to treat AI as a potential product catalyst instead of solely as a threat to established software vendors.
For 10x Genomics, the principal drivers include consumables demand, adoption of the Atera platform, better-than-feared results and an improved revenue outlook. Second-quarter reported revenue was distorted by non-recurring patent-settlement revenue in both periods. Excluding those items, management reported modest underlying growth. The rally therefore includes a significant valuation rerating, not simply an equivalent increase in current revenue.
The three-month laggards—Monster Beverage, MasTec and GlobalFoundries—represent different risks. Consumer-product companies face input costs, foreign-exchange effects and changing demand patterns. Construction and infrastructure businesses are sensitive to project timing and execution. Semiconductor manufacturers remain exposed to utilization, customer concentration, capital intensity and changes in demand outside the strongest AI-related categories.
Six-month performance: biotechnology tools and AI infrastructure separate from the market
The six-month winners are led by 10x Genomics, Moderna and Twist Bioscience. This cluster points to a broader rerating of selected life-science tools and biotechnology companies after weak expectations had been embedded in their valuations.
Twist’s move has a clearer operating component. The company raised fiscal-year revenue guidance, reported growth across its DNA-synthesis and sequencing activities and continued to target adjusted EBITDA break-even. Investors are also assigning value to the potential connection between synthetic biology, biological data and AI-supported drug discovery.
The appearance of Dell, AMD, CrowdStrike, Marvell, Intel and UMC among the broader six-month winners shows that the rally extends beyond one product category. It includes servers, processors, memory connectivity, foundry capacity, cybersecurity and enterprise infrastructure. The shared macro driver is sustained spending on computing capacity, although the earnings sensitivity and valuation of each company differ substantially.
Charter, XPeng and Monster Beverage lead the six-month declines. Charter remains exposed to intense broadband competition, elevated capital requirements, leverage and uncertainty surrounding subscriber trends. XPeng combines electric-vehicle pricing pressure with China-specific demand and policy risk. Monster’s decline suggests that defensive consumer status does not eliminate the risk of slowing volume, weaker margins or valuation compression.
One-year extremes require the most caution
Moderna, Micron and 10x Genomics lead the one-year winners. Micron’s inclusion highlights the macro effect of AI-related memory demand. Moderna and 10x Genomics are more idiosyncratic: both were recovering from depressed expectations, so their percentage gains partly reflect low starting valuations and high sensitivity to new information.
Several other one-year winners—including Western Digital, Seagate, Dell and AMD—reinforce the same infrastructure theme. Storage, memory, servers and accelerated computing have benefited from expectations that AI investment will remain elevated. This concentration also creates risk: a slowdown in capital expenditure or excess capacity could affect several leaders simultaneously.
CoStar, the legacy Fiserv symbol shown in the source data, and Charter sit among the largest one-year laggards. CoStar’s operating results have continued to show revenue and adjusted-EBITDA growth, but the share price has been affected by the scale and perceived risk of investment in residential marketplaces. This is a useful reminder that strong consolidated growth does not guarantee a rising valuation when investors question the returns on incremental spending.
The FISV entry requires a data-quality review because Fiserv changed its NYSE ticker from FISV to FI in 2023. “IME” should also be validated against the security master before publication. Stale mappings, relistings and corporate actions can create apparently extreme returns that do not represent a continuous investment in the same security.
Macro forces explain part—but not all—of the dispersion
AI capital expenditure is the clearest common factor among the winners. It supports demand for processors, memory, storage, power components, connectivity and enterprise software. The benefit is uneven, however: companies with direct revenue conversion and improving margins generally have stronger fundamental support than companies rising mainly because they belong to an attractive theme.
Interest rates and financing conditions influence both sides of the screen. Lower discount rates can produce large reratings in long-duration biotechnology and software shares, while heavily indebted telecommunications and capital-intensive businesses remain sensitive to refinancing costs. Consumer and travel stocks add exposure to employment, disposable income and discretionary spending.
The magnitude of several returns also indicates that positioning, short covering and valuation normalization are probably contributing alongside fundamental developments. Large percentage gains after severe declines should not be treated as evidence that the underlying business has improved by the same amount.
How to use the outlier screen
Short-term outliers are useful for identifying new information, while three- and six-month rankings reveal whether the market is sustaining the initial reaction. The one-year view supplies valuation and cycle context, but it is also the most exposed to low-base effects, corporate actions and stale ticker histories.
Before acting on any name, investors should verify the return calculation, current ticker, adjusted-price history, earnings revisions, balance sheet, valuation and the exact catalyst. The screen is best treated as a research queue—not as a list of automatic buy or sell recommendations.
